IT must be election time, judging by the anti-Labor rhetoric in the Murdoch press.
It takes me back to John Howard’s last winning election (2004).
It was won with a scare campaign over interest rates with big headlines such as “Rates to rise under Labor”.
I believe the fine print told a different story back then.
I seem to remember buried deep in The Daily Telegraph one day was a graph of interest rates from 1974-2004.
The three biggest decreases were under Labor. I remember seeing that the single biggest increase was under the Coalition, with Mr Howard as treasurer.
I have presented these facts to the Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin, four times via the Maitland Mercury in the years since, and he has yet to reply.
