LETTER: Free up weekend parking in city

WHAT kind of a society is this where those wishing to take their families (including children and the elderly) for a weekend morning or afternoon into the city – especially along the beautiful foreshore – must pay for parking? On a Sunday?

It often cuts into money to buy food for strolling along the foreshore with, like coffees and ice-creams.

It is time to consider lots more free parking spaces in the plans for the soon-to-be-ripped up heavy rail corridor to Newcastle station. Space must be aside for citizens and visitors.

Lake Macquarie doesn’t charge for parking at Speers Point. Brickbats to the former – bouquets for the latter.
